Hello there! Welcome to my site dedicated to Colic Calm™, my all time favorite product I used to calm my colicky baby.
Is Colic Calm Product A Scam? Does It Work?
(A Real Objective Review)
All new parents come to a point of desperation when their child is crying uncontrollably; whether the means of soothing our children is safe or not safe, it can be tempting to give our children anything that works in calming them down. When I reached this point of needing something, I decided an all-natural route would be the best choice for us. To my surprise, there are an overwhelming number of products on the shelf right now that claim to be homeopathic.
After an extensive search recently, I finally made the decision to try Colic Calm as the reviews online seemed so great. So after trying it for myself for a few months, I thought I would share my own experiences with the product since I made my own decision based on the honest reviews of other parents.
The Origin of Colic Calm
TJL Enterprises was launched in 2003 by Jacqueline Lawrence. It is a private corporation. Jacqueline Lawrence is the founder of Colic Calm. He thought to create something that was already not available on the market. His first born was a sufferer of COLIC, from then the need of a remedy arose.
Colic Calm claims to bean all-natural means of soothing a colicky baby immediately; the makers even go so far as the offer a guarantee if it doesn’t work as it claims. Early in my research I found that the medicine is also the only homeopathic medicine on the market that is regulated by the FDA and contains no additives that could be harmful to an infant.
I felt angry by this to be completely honest! Not because Colic Calm has FDA approval or because it contains only natural ingredients, but because other products are able to be sold to infants without having FDA approval. Before reading this, I had just assumed that all products claiming to be homeopathic needed to be checked for safety before being used by an infant or child.
How Does Colic Calm Work?
The product works by giving the infant the medicine at the first sign of colic, gas, or general discomfort. The “gripe water” (as it’s called) comes in a 2 ounce bottle with a dropper, and it takes only a small dropper full of the solution, and the infant should immediately begin to calm down. I carefully read through all of the directions, shook the bottle to mix it up, and filled the dropper.
Furthermore, in our case, we found that giving our baby the Colic Calm just under their tongue was the best way to give it. We immediately learned that giving the medicine directly in the mouth caused a bit of coughing and spitting. The product also came with a syringe in the box and we weren’t sure why, but we quickly found out. Most of the time our sweet baby was willing to take the drops under the tongue, but occasionally it was a fight. The syringe was a life saver as we could squirt it directly into the cheek.
Another positive as stated on the main product page is that the remedy works without affecting the infant’s digestive system. While this was great news, my greatest concern wasn’t so much the digestive system as it was the method of putting my child to sleep. I kept reading that other parents found that their children would fall asleep almost immediately, and so I worried that there was some sort of sedative that made them sleepy.
After looking through the ingredients, I wasn’t able to find anything that would cause drowsiness –much to my relief. I did finally find the answer to this question that seemed to be my holdup in purchasing in it.
The product simply makes the baby’s pain or discomfort go away, and after being in pain for a prolonged period of time, their small bodies are ready for rest. The sleep isn’t so much, then, because of the Colic Calm as much as it is about the pain being lessened.
Safe and effective
Additionally, the product is made completely within the United States by TJL Enterprises. I tell you this because I think it is important as parents that we do our own research. This company has an A+ with the Better Business Bureau, which does give peace of mind about the company’s willingness to resolve issues and honor guarantees. Also, it is made with the highest grade ingredients.
All of this in conjunction with parent reviews convinced me to go ahead and buy the product. After many sleepless nights, I was willing to try anything that claimed to be safe and effective. I tend to worry about giving my children anything, but especially so since my baby was also on an antibiotic for an ear infection at the time, which also contributed to the discomfort and crying. I called our nurse line and they assured me that it would be safe to give with our particular medicine; this was another good sign for me.
In the case of those of you who are reading this because you are also thinking about giving Colic Calm to your child, for sake of being cautious on your part; don’t take my word for it! Each child is different, so you may want to ask your pediatrician as well.
Does Colic Calm Do What It Claims?
Many have seen great success with product. As I was reading through the many, many reviews (something like half a million parents have used the product to date), the word “immediate” kept jumping out at me. I was really hopeful about the product and thought that as soon as I placed in my baby’s mouth, there would be instantaneous peace; however, not all babies are the same and some seem to take a bit longer to begin calming down like our child does.
What Did I Like About Colic Calm?
What I find most remarkable about the product is that there is no specified amount of time before I can give my child another dose. When the colic seems to be persisting, and a comfortable amount of time has passed before I feel okay with giving another dose, I am able to do so without fear of harming my baby.
That’s not to say that I can give unlimited quantities to my baby. In fact, the product came with a dosing guide, and if you are also thinking of using this, please do make sure that you read through it before you use it.
Quality Over Price
However, the drawback to using this product is definitely the price associated with it. In comparison, it was noticeably more expensive than other colic remedies even online, but it also seemed to work better than others I’ve tried in the past, so I suppose it was sort of a draw in this area.
At that moment of discomfort, I think all parents would agree that any amount is worth it to see a sense of peace of their peace. Some parents (myself included) who are on the fence about purchasing it are willing to try the remedy because of its money back guarantee, therefore, I knew that even if it didn’t work, I would be able to get my money back.
So I went for it despite myself (and I can honestly say that I’m glad I did). The company does say that the bottle holds up 48 doses and we only need 1-2 doses per episode, so hopefully it should also last us quite a while too.
What I Dislike About Colic Calm?
The coloring of the gripe water is actually black (which in it of itself can be alarming), and if you are anything like me, you will probably panic the first time your sweet baby gets some on their clothes.
I was really worried that it wouldn’t come out, but thankfully it does. You do need to vigilant about it though. Once you see it, treat it and let it sit for a bit and you’ll be fine. For us, the tradeoff is worth it. It has also affected the coloring of the BM’s, which definitely worried me! Our pediatrician assured me this was normal and as long as I was comfortable with it, it was not going to harm the baby in any way.
Good News For Older Children
Recently we learned that the product makers have created additional supplements for the older child. We have considered using the next stage (tummy calm) for our older child since we’ve seen some success in the Colic Calm, but we actually gave the Colic Calm to our oldest and it had the same effect as it does for our infant.
I’m not sure if this is an official endorsement of use, but many parents were citing its effect on both babies and children alike. Given that it’s homeopathic, we knew it would hurt to try!
My Colic Calm Review Conclusion
In all, this product worked really well for my family. While we didn’t see the “immediate” effect that others seem to have, it was definitely very quick. Even though we haven’t tried it yet, we have also heard that the product works really well for hiccups, teething pain, and gas pains as well.
The Colic Calm did both calm my baby during the episode as well as decrease the number of colicky evenings had in total. My sweet baby got the much needed sleep needed without screaming all night (and the same is true for the rest of my family as well). I am convinced that there is no miracle cure for all babies, but the product does seem to do what it says it’s going to do.
